RULES AND REGULATIONS

General Playing Rules

  • Best of 3 sets for 15 points each with be the format which will be followed across all the events .Players will change ends after each set.
  • Each player is allowed to use a stringed racket. The inside lines are used as the parameter for singles match whilst the outside line is used for a doubles match. Yonex Feather shuttlecocks will be used.
  • Players must serve diagonally across the net to their opponent. As points are won then serving stations move from one side to the other. There are no second serves so if your first serve goes out then your opponent wins the point.
  • A serve must be hit underarm and below the server’s waist. No overarm serves are allowed.
  • Each game will start with a toss to determine which player will serve first and which side of the court the opponent would like to start from.
  • If a player touches the net with any part of their body or racket then it is deemed a fault and their opponent receives the point.
  • A fault is also called if a player deliberately distracts their opponent, the shuttlecock is caught in the racket then flung, the shuttlecock is hit twice or if the player continues to infract with the laws of badminton.
  • Each game is umpired by a referee who also acts as the line judge who’ll monitor if the shuttlecock lands in or not. The referee has overriding calls on infringements and faults.
  • Let may be called by the referee if an unforeseen or accidental circumstance arose. These may include the shuttlecock getting stuck in the bet, server serving out of turn, one player was not ready or a decision which is too close to call.
  • The game has only two rest periods coming the form of a 90 second rest after the first set and a 3 minute rest period after the second set.
  • If the laws are continuously broken by a player then the referee holds the power to dock that player of points with persisting fouls receiving a forfeit of the set or even the match.
  • Matches start at 9:00 AM on both days. Players MUST be registered prior to commencement of the event. On-spot registration is not available.
  • In case of a points tie, A single point decider will be played between the opponents.
  • A knockout format will be followed through-out the course of the tournament.

Rules

  • A player must wait until his opponent is ready before serving. If the opponent attempts a return then he is ruled having been ready.
  • The feet of both players must remain in a stationary position until the serve is made. Your feet can not be touching the line at this time.
  • It is not a fault if you miss the shuttle while serving.
  • The shuttle cannot be caught and slung with the racket.
  • A player cannot hold his racket near the net to ward off a downward stroke by his opponent or to interfere with his racket.

Faults

  • The shuttle, at the instant of being hit is higher than the server’s waist or the head of the racket is higher than the servers racket hand.
  • The shuttle, at the instant of being hit is higher than the server’s waist or the head of the racket is higher than the servers racket hand.
  • The server’s feet are not in the service court or if the feet of the receiver is not in the court diagonally opposite the server.
  • The server steps forward as he/she serves.
  • Any player balking or feinting his opponent before serve or during serve.
  • A serve or shot that lands outside the court boundaries, passes under or through the net, touches any other obstructions or a players body or clothing. The boundary and service lines are considered in play.
  • The shuttle in play is struck before it crosses the net to the striker’s side of the net. You may follow through over the net.
  • A player touching the net or its supports with his body or racket while the shuttle is in play.
  • Hitting the shuttle twice in succession by a player or team.

Rules of Compliance

  • Players must have been born between the dates 1st January 1984-31st December 1999 (for 20-35 category) and 31st December 1983 or before (for 35+ Category). Presentation and submission of a photocopy your proof of DOB is MANDATORY.
  • The Life Club Management will not be held responsible for any injuries that may occur during the course of the event.
  • Participants are requested to look after their own belongings during the course of the event. The Life Club will not be responsible for In any loss or theft.
  • No entries will be accepted without the requisite entry fee. Fees once paid are non-refundable.
  • Each player must submit an individual entry form. Every player is allowed to enter in his/her own grade and in the higher grade. Players are allowed to enter in the same event over two separated grades provided the events are held on different days and/ if the players’ ranking are eligible to do so. The Tournament Committee reserves the right to reject or re-grade any entry and shall have entire control and management of the Tournament.
  • Start time will be approximately 9.00 a.m. and the tournament will run up till 7:00 pm.
  • The Tournament Organisers reserve the right to refuse entry without giving reason, and to modify the anticipated programme of events in any way they see fit. The Referee’s decision is final.
  • All players must wear appropriate racquet sports attire. Non- marking shoes must be worn.
  • Enquiries regarding starting times of matches are the responsibility of entrants. The timetable for the event will also be placed on the tournament website and in the venue. The Tournament Director has the power to disqualify any player not available to play when called to do so. Any alterations made to the competition schedule due to unforeseen circumstances will be announced by the Referee. The schedule may alter depending on the number of entries received.
  • There are limited entries to each event and when the limit is reached, management will have the right to not accept further entries.
  • Tournament Committee has the right to use any photo and videos taken from this event; players must advise the Tournament Committee if there is any concern about this condition.
  • The system will be monitored by fellow players at events and if a player believes another player breaches this policy it is up to them to alert the relevant authorities.
